Football Head Coach- Rene Nunez

Rene Nunez was 1 of 6 children born here in southern Southern California but had moved to Idaho when he was just a year old. He grew up there playing sports and following the footsteps of his older brother. He moved back to California when he was 10 years old and picked up where he left off, playing mostly football in Jr high and High School. At the age of 16, Coach Nunez had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Being heavily involved in church, it was there that he met his wife Stacey. The two of them got married in 2008 and would go on to become the youth pastors of their church, and led the youth ministry for five years. In 2014 Coach had felt led to walk away from that ministry, and during that Summer God had directed him to a new ministry in the form of coaching. He came to Southlands Christian as the running backs and linebackers coach. In 2015 he became the assistant head coach and also the defensive coordinator. In the Spring of 2020, he accepted the Varsity Football Head Coaching position. He and his coaches are on the mission to bring Southlands Christian their first CIF football championship as well as shaping and molding the athletes to be men of integrity, honor, and respect. Teaching them leadership fundamentals and how to lead well. Coach Nunez and his wife Stacey live in Rowland Heights with their daughter Jiselle (10)  and son Jaxson (4). Football is a huge part of their family. If it’s Friday night under the lights, with Jiselle cheering her daddy’s team to a victory, or at home watching college football on Saturdays and NFL on Sundays after church… the Nunez family lives by the motto, “Faith, Family, Football”
