Eagles News · Eagles Take Home Hardware

This game was the Championship game of the Calvary Chapel Downey Grizzly Classic. The Southlands Christian Eagles played against the El Segundo Eagles. El Segundo came out hard as they pressed Southlands Christian with a full court 2-2-1. However, SC beat the press and was able to run their offense against the Eagles of El Segundo. The first quarter was close as El Segundo lead SC with a score of 13-8. El Segundo widened the gap as three SC starters were in foul trouble in the second quarter. The SC Eagles gave their best effort as they played hard until the sound of the buzzer. El Segundo ended up defeating Southlands Christian with a score of 48-30.

This was the first time the Southlands Christian Boys Basketball Team has ever placed in a tournament. The SC Eagles were 2nd place in the Calvary Chapel Downey Tournament. To be able to play against a former Division 3 and now Division 4 team with heart and poise showed what kind of character the SC Eagles had.

Vashon Vaughn and Philip Cronk were named to the Grizzly Classic All-Tournament Team.

Senior, Isaac Adnew, accepted the 2nd place trophy for the Southlands Christian Eagles.

Boys Varsity Soccer · Hat Trick Comeback

Last Thursday, January 26th, the boys’ varsity soccer team hosted Emerson Honors High School in a league match. The Eagles dominated the Dragons in their first match with a score of 3-0.

The following day, Friday, Emerson hosted Southlands in back to back games due to bad weather conditions earlier this month. Despite missing three starters (1 injured, 2 out-of-town) and being down 3-1 in the 2nd half, the Eagles came from behind in exciting fashion against Emerson Honors HS, led by Edyon Batta’s 3 goals (hat trick) in the final 15 minutes of the game. The Eagles remain undefeated in league and look to finish that way with 3 conference games remaining. Senior Jacob Smith put the Eagles on the scoreboard with an impressive 30-foot blast in the first half. And after a rough start, freshman goalie Isaac Lloyd recovered to make critical stops in the second half to secure the victory.

Highlights vs Upland Christian Academy:

Highlights vs Capistrano Valley Christian:

Edyon Batta:

Adrian Albarran:

This week the Eagles face the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals whom they have never beat. In the six matches dating back to 2007 the Cardinals have absolutely dominated the Eagles, outscoring them 353-53. The eagles are extremely motivated to change things as they are looking to make it 3 straight wins and move above .500 for the first time this season (5-4).

Santa Clarita has been known for years to be a pass heavy team, they have had games where they have run the ball less than five times per contest. However, in the last three games (Webb, Fairmont and Capistrano Christian) they have run the ball 30% of the time.

Santa Clarita Christian’s offense is powered by #2 senior sensation Jacob Moss who has 885 yards receiving with 71 receptions and 7 touchdowns.

The Eagles hope to be led by their “BIG 3” QB Adrian Albarran, RB Samson Tufui and WR Edyon Batta. The Eagles offense is averaging over 38 points per game in league contests.

With a win, the Eagles will move into 2nd place and one game away from its first playoff birth in school history (in 11 man football).

Come support the Eagles this Friday Night at 7PM at Diamond Bar High School for SENIOR NIGHT.

Post game there will be a ceremony to honor our seniors.
