The National Girls and Women in Sports Day is an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress and continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. Southlands Christian Athletic’s Program wants to recognize and honor our female student-athletes! We celebrate the many accomplishments that female athletes have worked tirelessly for in years past and look forward to the strides being made towards equality for women in sports everywhere.
Allyson Felix is an Olympic athlete that is not only a gifted female-athlete but a Christ-follower. Allyson’s perspective on sports is what we desire for all of our student-athletes to stand for as well. Allyson said, “The most important lesson that I have learned is to trust God in every circumstance. Lots of times we go through different trials and following God’s plan seems like it doesn’t make any sense at all. God is always in control and he will never leave us. I have learned that track doesn’t define me. My faith defines me. I’m running because I have been blessed with a gift.”
We honor and pray that our SC female-athletes continue to push forward. You are the future of women’s sports and have a great opportunity to continue positive change. Trust in God through all the challenges that these times present. You are building a great story of perseverance that you will be able to share with future athletes.
