The Girls’ Volleyball teams have come out hot as all teams have played great in week 1. The Freshmen Team is 2-0, Junior Varsity is 3-0, and Varsity is 2-1. The Eagles have played against the La Puente Warriors, Ontario Jaguars, and Western Christian Fighting Lancers this week. The Varsity Team had a tough loss on Thursday as they played 4 exciting games in their match against Western Christian. The Eagles came out quick in the first set as they won the 25-15. However, the Fighting Lancers held on to two very tight sets that gave them the momentum in the last set. It was a tough loss for our Girls’ Varsity Team as they lost each set that went over the 25 point mark. The Eagles had two key players that did not play in this game due to injury, which really hurt the team. Although the Eagles lost, the Eagles are positive that they’ll grow and improve from this game.
The Girls’ Varsity Team is looking to make a deep run in playoffs this year and will get there by winning half of their regular season games or placing in the San Joaquin League. The Eagles have there work cut out for them as they play high-level teams in league as they have been moved up a division and league after CIF Rankings and League Placement. Coach Browder believes in her team to upset some good teams and make a deep playoff run. Her motto this year is, “the road to state!” The Eagles have two league championships and have made it to the quarterfinals twice in the past three years. Coach Browder has done an amazing job of turning this program around and changing the culture of the team.
The Eagles next game is against Orangewood Academy at home on Tuesday, August 21. JV play at 4 pm and Varsity at 5:30 pm. Last year, the Eagles split games with the Orangewood Academy Spartans (1-1). However, Southlands finished in second place over the Spartans because they defeated 1st place Capistrano Valley Christian as well. Tuesday’s game will be a competitive game.
Come to support our girls as they play at home next Tuesday!
